Indonesia aims to broaden cricket's appeal
The Indonesian cricket board has announced an ambitious US$200,000 three-year development programme aimed at spreading the game outside its traditional base of expats.
A report in The Jakarta Post quoted Cricket Indonesia chairman Sachin Gopalan, who said that the campaign would target "individuals and middle-sized companies who are interested in the development of cricket in Indonesia. The idea is to prove to those involved in cricket development that this program is a serious and long-term one.”
Board secretary Prakash Vijaykumar said that the association was planning to publicise the game across the country. “We are starting to introduce the sport in new areas in cooperation with National Sports Council provincial chapters in places such as Banten, Riau, East Kalimantan, Yogyakarta and Surabaya. We want to transform cricket into a popular sport for Indonesian people.”
Perfect, that should be the spirit; I just hope the plan takes off…
this is a good idea i think a lot of people may want to see Indonesia in the next World cup
I want to see Indonesia just give cricket a go and see if they do well. Cricket needs to be more global and this will definitely help build the game around the world.

cricket in Indonesia is growing rapidly, n its a good sign for d cricketing world, however it would be appreciated more, if more concentration is paid on the U-19 level of players rather than specific leagues...
In Indonesia, cricket is growing rapidly. We are having 11 teams playing official cricket in Indonesia. It is really a fun and i never thought such a support giving by this Indonesian people. Jakarta cricket association is doing wonderful job for spreading this cricket in this part of the world. All the best to ICC and JCA.
As a indian, i never thought such a support giving by indonesians for this cricket. Sooner the later it is also a cricket loving country after india and pakistan.
