Tikolo to bow out before World Cup

Kenya captain Steve Tikolo, who has played in four World Cups, has said he will not play in the 2011 World Cup. In Tikolo Kenya had a batsman of genuine class at the top of the order with a wide range of strokes and the void will be a massive one to fill when the side meets bigger teams in two years.

"My legs are going now and I'm getting a little too slow. I think it's time to let the youngsters come through," said Tikolo after Kenya's win over Ireland in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. "I will probably play until the end of this season but I will not be around for the next World Cup. There is plenty of young talent coming through in Kenya so I think the time is right for me to step away."

The famous of the three brothers that have represented their country. One of the best all-round cricketers produced by Kenya.Along with Maurice Odumbe and Ravindu Shah were the backbone of Kenyan cricket for many years. He will be an insipirstion for the future of Cricket in Kenya and hopefully his wealth of knowledge and eperience will be used wisely by the current adminstration.I had the pleasure of playing with him and seeing his career blossom to great heights. He is along with Hitesh Metha, Maurice Odumbhe and Zulfiqar Ali one of the best allrounders this great country has produced.

Tikolo has been inspiring to watch over the years. I even had the honour of seeing him in the North Lancs league at Dalton, although the match was called off.

Undoubtedly Steve Tikolo is the all-time best player from associate nations. But, what I am afraid of is whether this is the beginning of demose of Kenyan cricket?
I do not see young talent coming in the international arena. The average age of the Team is increasing on a continuous basis.
