An idea whose time has come
Dear Readers,
We have always known that if we looked after the interests of the readers, the rest will look after itself. Our real strength remains the size of our audience, which, gratifyingly, has continued to grow. It is the clearest sign of your endorsement of what we produce for you.
Since Cricinfo is about you, your voice is important. We have a robust feedback mechanism which features some lively discussions on major issues affecting cricket. But we recognise the limitation of the system that allows you only to respond and not initiate. We are seeking to redress that inadequacy somewhat by creating a space that is wholly yours: you set the agenda and you lead the discussion.
'Inbox' will feature submissions from you with us playing gatekeeper as we do with the rest of the site. We will set no rules apart from ensuring a certain quality that you have come to associate with Cricinfo. You may write on the aspects of the game that you hold dear; about matters that rile you; about players, teams and trends; you may share your memories and views, and you may so do so in 100 words or 500. The only tip we will give you is to repeat a line from our style sheet: Brevity is not just the soul of wit, it is the heart of all writing.
Welcome.

This is a good initiative by Cricinfo.. I am sure many readers will use it as a great avenue to discuss cricket and i am looking forward to some intriguing debates myself! Another benefit is that many of us can become a part of the discussion that sometime goes on during a match. The only option earlier was to submit a comment through the Feedback mechanism and hope that it gets posted, but i can understand cricinfo's limitation to do that. But now, things are looking bright!
Thanks to Cricinfo for coming up with this idea.I love Cricinfo and its my homepage for ages now.
Hope this initiative turns out to be a huge success as 606 debate in BBC.
Coming to India SL Test, its refreshing to see Srilankan bowlers given the pounding by Sehwag
and Ganbhir. Mr.Mendis , Welcome to Test Cricket!! I think the more the batsmen play
Mendis , he will not be a bigger threat as he is now. The simple reason I feel he is not
a great turner of the ball like Kumble.
As all Indian fans, am hoping for a Sehwag 150+ as all his last 9 or 10 hundreds are 150+.
Cheer up Indian fans! Atlast our openers had breathed life into the series.
GO INDIA!
It is too good, very fast. sometimes I found some mistakes in the scorecard. later it has been corrected. but it will be better if rectify this problem. Some times I found it is bit slow compared to other similar sites. Overall it is good site.
What a brilliant idea. I have always rued the fact that there has been no properly moderated cricket forum on the internet. The few that do exist are sometimes too polorised and biased towards certain teams/player/officials. This new idea at cricinfo will do away with all that. Great idea
Hell Sambit,
Cricket is a funny game but I follow cricket strictly/focusly. Today's inning of Sehwag is not new fo crikcet lovers because he is sort of player who can destroy any bowler on his day but any player who bat like him is not consistent except for Sir Viv Richards and more to say high back lift player doesn't long where the ball is doing a bit, may be few more players in the game but thats what all about technique. Excellent techinque was of Sir Gavaskar what I call him because he/we doesn't need such sort of Royality/Knighthood which lacks consistency of selecting correct player for such title. He was the best player I have seen in my 40+ age. You see even Tendulkar has technique but because he also play little bit of high back lift or free flow of the bat thatswhy he normally fail with the swinging ball.Dravid is good but sometime fail to show patience like Sunny& he remains No.1 player whenever selected WORLD 11 is Selected till today. Salute to SUNNY means Shining always
There is only one question from me. Why Australia cheat so much in the game. How it goes as spirit of the game. I think cricket should be encouraged into fair play. Winning a game is not everything. I would say West Indies are the ever best team to take things easy in cricket. Ponting and most of the Australian players have converted drop catches to opponent's dismissal. Srilanka is another team that don’t make fuss in the ground. If you remember the last world cup final against Australia. SL was playing in the dark and with no DL score target for few overs. They need to think bit smarter on those situations.
There should be an award for fair player every year. Batter leaves the crease when there was nick. A fielder admits a drop catch. Bowlers appeal only for very close calls.
regards,
Kevin
Here is another one about Bradman. During the 1948 Ashes tour, the Don heard that a young fast bowler was to be tried out in a county match against the Australians for possible inclusion in the next Test. Bradman told his batsmen to play and miss that bowler often enough without actually losing wickets to him,to make him appear lethal. This his batsmen did and the bowler was included for the next Test in preference to a bowler whom the Australians really feared. The Australians slaughtered the new bowler who did not play a Test again.
Cricinfo has long been regarded as of the best cricket sites available for cricket lovers all over the world. From your detailed coverage of even domestic matches, to intricate pieces of work by your regular contributors (I'm a huge fan of The Numbers Game and Ask Steven), this site has never let us down. And it is ideas like these which keep you ahead of the competition. Truly, a site made for the cricket lover. Hats off to you guys!
Finally...Web 2.0 catching up with Cricinfo. Thanks for this great feature. Earnestly looking forward to post an article.
Slurp, I'm licking my lips in anticipation of some of the genuine lovers of the game, who otherwise have no access to any platform other than blogosphere, making a beeline to post their stuff here. Count yours truly among them. Ensure a good filtering and you just love the stuff. Thanks Cricinfo.
I've been glued to Cricinfo since I don't get the opportunity of watching any cricket in Spain. Your initiative is appreciated and fills a void. Getting back to the match, it's been a long time since Murali has been in the shadows of another fellow spinner. Time will tell whether Mendis will have the same success as Murali but he is a welcome change to the game. This match is poised for an interesting finish and I am sure all the spinners will play a part. So long live Test cricket !
I've been pondering this "Review" system recently, which is being piloted in the Sri Lanka and India Test series and has me a little worried. The reason why i am a little concerned is that many of the decisions are correctly given out, but are not being given out by the umpires before they are reviewed. To me it seems that umpires are now being undermined that their judgement is so poor that now need technology in order to substitute their decisions. It just seems that the review system will cause more concern than if they hadn't piloted/introduced it. Nontheless, it will nodoubt be reviewed and tailored if they do see it as working, but for the time being, it think it is best to let the umpires do the umpiring rather than continue to undermine them and the ICC Umpire Elites'. Who after all shouldn't be relying on reviews to give players' out when clearly they are, otherwise i may as well be a professional umpire too. I have alittle more to say, but i've got no more space.

Trying to save Test Cricket!
To give it a One Day International feeling, I think the format should be changed.
• Each team is allowed one day to bat and and will face ninety (90) overs.
• The match will still be five (5) days but the fifth day is a reserve day in case of rain or some other delay.
• If your team is bowled out without facing the stipulated 90 overs then you forfeit your remaining overs to the opposing team. They will have their ninety overs plus whatever overs gained.
• the match should be complete in four (4) days.
Most of the rules that apply to one day cricket will apply including Duckworth/Lewis.Some other logistics will have to be worked out but its something to look at.
