Go Pakistan, this could be your moment

There is something about Pakistan's determination to put right some of the wrongs of the past, and lift the mood of the people back home © Associated Press

In 1999, Pakistan played thrilling World Cup cricket only to be crushed in the final by Australia at Lord's. In 2007 Pakistan came within an agonising 5 runs of winning the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup. In one fell swoop - a Twenty20 final at Lord's - Younis Khan's team can banish both those painful memories for Pakistan's players and supporters.

This is an unexpected opportunity. Few people predicted Pakistan could reach this stage. Cricket's perennial underachievers have overachieved in this tournament. They have already made their supporters proud. Against Sri Lanka they will again start as underdogs.

But if Pakistan play with the same passion, pride, and fearlessness that they have displayed in the latter half of the tournament then they have every chance of success. Pakistan play a strong Sri Lankan team, but the teams are evenly matched. A flash of genius from a player from either side will seal this match. Enter Shahid Afridi, a player with verve. This could be your moment.

Sri Lanka would be worthy winners too - and the dignity they showed after the Lahore attacks would be reason enough- but there is something about Pakistan's determination to put right some of the wrongs of the past, and lift the mood of the people back home, that is compelling.

Younis Khan's admonishment of Mohammad Aamer for failing to complete a run out when the semi-final was already won tells its own story. Afridi and Abdul Razzaq have the pain of a decade ago to ease. Many of the players watched India celebrate in South Africa two years ago. Above all, their countrymen have suffered on a daily basis for many months. Younis, Afridi, and Umar Gul are from the war torn North West Frontier Province. Pakistan have many powerful motivations to win this cup.

But the match will not be decided on sentiment. Pakistan may not have an Ajantha Mendis but they possess a more consistently powerful bowling line-up. Sri Lanka shade the batting although Pakistan are fast improving and must have one big score in them, surely? At least they will be confident of tackling Murali and Mendis. It was Lasith Malinga who undid them in the Super Eights match. Pakistan must play him with a clear plan. The last outing was panic-stricken.

It is always difficult to predict a Twenty20 match with certainty. But I am certain that Younis' team have been the best ambassadors that Pakistan has had for many years. They have not achieved this through politics or money. They have achieved this through their skill and passion on a cricket pitch and the joy and excitement that they have brought to this tournament. Changing the world's view of the people of Pakistan was harder than winning any World Cup.

Now for the easy part. Go Pakistan! Dil Dil Pakistan . . .

i hope and pray pakistan win this world cup.just a few tips
ahmed shehzad should replace fawad alam

batsmen should move around(specially a step forward) against malinga

against murali and mendis, they should cover the line of the ball

Whether it is by a meager happenstance or a prosperous design, the two T20 world cups conducted so far has ended with South Asian teams shinning as the top two. Luckily for us, Pakistan has been in there both the times. Rightly said by Kamran Abbasi that the final outcome of the match at Lords on sunday, wouldn't be based on sentiments, but performance, while I would also add that sometimes the performance may come from a stroke of lady luck's magic wand. I hope something like that happen to one or two players of Pakistan.... But let's not hope that the cupid's arrow hit anyone in Sri Lankan team, because they had already been struck by the stupid's bullets back in March.

Kamran, that is the moment which we have waited alot, we deserve victory this time. I request all the players to PLAY LIKE A BEAST !! and win it like a CHAMPION!! FEARLESS. I hope InshaAllah this cup is ours!!PAKISTAN ZINDABAD. InshaAllah if they arrive back victorious i'll be their at Airport to salute them. this will the revival of Cricekt.

Yes, indeed GO PAKISTAN. Win one more match and be on the top of the world. Everyone knows, it wont be easy. Dilshan and 4 Ms (Murli, Mendis, Malinga and Mathews) stand in the way but Pakistan, being the most unpredictable side, can pul off another unpredictable good performance. Best of Luck Pakistan.

Great one Kamran. You just missed one point, during the game when the DJ kept playing Dil Dil Pakistan, it made the entire Pakistan, Notthingam, Canada, US, UK, Australia, Dubai (wherever the Pakistanis are) go crazy!!!...People were/are so happy...we celebrated all night dancing cheering for Pakistan..This moment of happiness will never be forgotten...Pakistan really needed it and I am sure we will win the World Cup! Godwilling (inshaAllah) :)

Inshallah lets hope Pakistan wins this time.

Posted by: Rocky at June 20, 2009 5:15 PM

Saeed Ajmal and Afridi are the key. And hope they don't bring in Shahzaib Hasan. Better to open with Ahmed Shehzad or even the experienced out-of-form Butt. Some experience is needed here for sure to get past Mendis and Murali. I feel Pakistan has an edge over Sri Lanka when it comes to big moments. Good Luck Pakistan

Posted by: Ali Akbar at June 20, 2009 5:25 PM

Go Pakistan Indeed. It is indeed impossible to fathom what a morale booster this small victory will be for the battered nation that is Pakistan. I had tear in my eyes as Pakistan's win against SA resulted in scenes of jubilation amongst all but specially those Pakistanis who have suffered the most during the past months and years. The people in refugee camps in their own country for got their troubles for a moment and danced in joy.

Lets do it Pakistan!
Do it for the Nation.
Do it for those who have lost their homes.
For those, caught up in a war not of their making.

This win will not give them back their lost ones nor rebuild their lives, all it will do will bring smiles, and only for that, it will be wort it!

Do us proud!

yes, kamran you are right that pakistan team needs this cup more than anyone else. and to be honest, pakistan are not far behind srilanka anymore. yes, the 4 m's are the strong point of srilanks, but in three nwfp heroes in pakistan team, they are also not far behind. on the paper, pakistan looks strong. just imagine imran nazir and muhammad yousaf in places of shahzaib hassan and fawad alam!! isnt it fantastic? what a team, just hear!! nazir, akmal, razzaq, younis, yousaf, malik, misbah, afridi, ajmal, gul, aamir!!! and wait, asif is also coming for champions trophy. are we living in dream!! Posted by: nadeem khan at June 20, 2009 5:34 PM

i want to say make strong policy to take malinga moving around stumps to disturb malinga and atke mendis to off side ame as treat botha in south african game particularlarly mendis ony have faster and dosra which can easily send out of ground to off side so take first two overs carefully tnen take charge beter to put target not to chase better to bowl two overs of shoib malik and finish last over should from umer gul

Posted by: Hasan Raza at June 20, 2009 5:41 PM

The fact that Shoaib Malik made such a stupid statement at the end of the last World Cup 'First of all I would like to apologise....etc. etc.' means that I will be willing Sri Lanka to win this final.

Pakistan have got to the final due to the fact that Australia and India had off days as well as injuries.

Sorry but the bowling is the only high spot for Pakistan-Malinga will again cause problems for you.

Posted by: zahra at June 20, 2009 5:42 PM

ahmad shehzad should replace shahzaib hassan who is unable to handle pressure and fawad alam should play as he wakes pakistan up with his brilliance in the field...

Posted by: feroz karmally at June 20, 2009 5:44 PM

Just don't get Fawad Alam to bowl - Twenty20 is not the place for slow left arm spinners , and give easy 15 runs which can cost the game

Posted by: Kamran Anjum at June 20, 2009 5:46 PM

Go Team Pakistan. May ALLAH be on your side and helps you win this tournament.

Posted by: usman at June 20, 2009 5:46 PM

Reaching the final against all odds was a big achievement. Regardless of what happens in the final Pakistan team has to be congragulated .
A couple of suggestions to improve their runrate .
In the first 6 overs the runrate is too low . Shahid Afridi should bat at no:3 and if he falls early, Razzaq should be sent in with clear instructions to pick up the momentum.
Pakistan have saved too many wickets at the end . Shoaib Malik and Misbah should be clearly instructed to hit the Ball regardless of the consequences. Yunus Khan is already playing and anchor's role . We do not need toomany anchors. If we loose too many wickets towards the end Fawad Alam and Umer Gul can still hit a few to keep the Run rate going. If we bat first we need to score above 175 to keep Sri Lanka under pressure .

Posted by: Emad Kirmani at June 20, 2009 5:48 PM

No I think we should keep the SAME 11 that has won the last 3 matches, Fawad Alam should not bowl, but he hasn't gotten a chance to bat yet and I'm pretty sure he will deliver. Stick with Shahzaib, he's performed 2 out of three times.

InshAllah Pak will win the cup!!!

Posted by: tharanga at June 20, 2009 5:50 PM

I'm a sri lankan.. Tomorrow it the day!!!! Hope both team will play well and give a good game to us.
As a Sri lankan My favorite team is non other than my motherland Sri lanka.
So my 1st choice is Sri lanka. Even if by a chance sri lanka loose tomorrows match i'm not worried or sad. Because Pakistan is our second choice. over the years Srilankans 2nd choice is Pakistan because pakistan is a true friend of sri lanka.
we Love Pakistan team. When Pakistan team beat India in any format of a game we as a sri lankan we cheer. we calibrate..
So for tommorow match we will cheer for sri lanka.. But we will also cheer for pakistan.. But there is only one winner. So it may be sri lanka or pakistan..

wat ever happen tomorow we all are winners.. because WE ARE ASIANS !!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Insh at June 20, 2009 5:50 PM

If Pakistan win the toss and bat first, put 150+ on the board they have got a great chance of winning it. Our hopes lie with Gul, Afridi, Ajmal and Akmal.

Posted by: Taimoor Akber at June 20, 2009 5:51 PM

All of our wishes & prayers is with the Pakistan team.i also suggest that butt or ahmed shazad should replace fawad alam.even if they dont come into play still you have a psychlogical feeling that you have a extra batsman who can chip in with useful 20 or 25 runs to atleast give some kind of safety in our batting department.

Posted by: Enum at June 20, 2009 5:52 PM

Pakistan can definitely win the final if they play with the same passion. Afridi and Gul are the key players and I hope they deliver like they have done in the previous matches. The batting has to be much better than it has been in the previous matches, I hope Shazain and Akmal are able to put up a good partnership. Another thing that i'm hoping for is that Shoaib and Misbah play well, they have to play quick since the run rate usually drops when they are around!

My prayers are with the team, and InshAllah we will win.. :)

P.s I will still remain a proud Pakistani even if we (God forbid) lose the final :)

Posted by: Nadeem Saeed at June 20, 2009 5:52 PM

Just like 1992 - Pakistan have made the final with the odds stacked against us. Sri Lanka are the form team and start as favourites. To win I feel we need to sort out our batting order. I would recall Ahmed Shehzad or Salman Butt as opener in place of Shahzaib Hasan who's technique looks a bit suspect. Kamran Akmal deserves to continue opening. 3 has to be the enagmatic Boom Boom Afridi. 4 Younis Khan. 5. Misbah. 6 Shoaib Malik. 7 Razzak. 8 Fawad Alam. 9. Gul 10. Ammir 11. Saeed Ajmal.

Batting firt is our best option and Younis Khan can not make any mistakes with his bowling changes need to give full allocation to Gul, Ajmal, Afridi and the remaining 8 overs between the remaining bowlers.

Dil Dil Pakistan lets win it for the nation. !!

Posted by: waqas at June 20, 2009 5:53 PM

for people saying do us proud .. the team has aleady made us proud .. their determination eagerness and passion has out done SA... no one gave us a chance to qulaify for Semis let alone playing the final itself. I wish the team best of luck ... hope they can do it again .. all i ask is to give their 100% again ... and then even if they dont win i will be there to Salute them .. this is probably the most joyous moment in the last 2 years of Pakistan nation .. Keep it up guys we are proud of you

Posted by: Usama Saleem at June 20, 2009 5:53 PM

Ay jazba junnon tu himmat na haar, thats really proved by younis khan and his boys....doesnt matter we win or loss, you guys have made alot of people look fool, like qadir and other writers, who thought pak dont have a chance to qualify semis even. great work from afridi and gul along wid akmal and younis . and i think if i say its just becoz of a few guys that we r in final now.
wat if all of them suddenly turn in form..trust me no body will be able to face these guys..
great captaincy from younis especially when he back his match winner gul in ball tempering controversy. thats wat all pakistani want you to be like guys...just go and win and be a hero for rest of your time.

Posted by: mohammed usman at June 20, 2009 5:56 PM

we all should pray for pakistan and it is important for pakistan to win because in the recent series they only lost

Posted by: Nazibul Islam at June 20, 2009 5:56 PM

It was really a painful loss of Pakistan in the t20 final 2007, even I can't forget that day when Misbah brought the match under grieve but left the match at the last moment. By winning that t20, India gone high in their performance for next 2 years, on the other hand Pakistani team couldn't play any mentionable cricket for last 2 years. This is the right time for winding up. This win can help Pakistan to forget the t20 final of 2007. If Pakistan can win this world cup, I am sure their team spirit will increase so high & they will do better in both ODI & Test cricket. Go Pakistan Go, we are with you; we don't want to remorse what we did in the month of Ramadan in 2007. Senior players have to use their experience and the young player should show their spirit of youth, in this way the task can be done easily.

Well said that pakistan have already won. their comeback, their spirit, their passion and their skill have result in such brilliance. Out of the 2, only 1 will emerge as winner but the journey from super eight to finale itself is a victory.
one suggestion....... give the new ball to umar gul, if we get dilshan out early, the match will be in our pocket. sanath is not in the best of forms and mahila, sangakara and the rest lack the explosiveness. lets hope for the best.

Coming to cricket it great to see Pakistan team so hungry to win and playing together as one team. Especially players like Afridi, Gul etc (even with little cricket that Pakistan have played)have shown that talent combined with hard work always rules!!!!. The team has done an outstanding job till now I am sure they will go on to win the world cup this time.

Cricket for Pakistan is not only a game it is a next to religion. Yes we all love our cricket as much as any nation love sport, with all the trouble going on in Pakistan at this time we need a big news we need a big win that keep nation going as nation that give nation a motivation and some thing to look forward.

Only few months back, I remember so well every one saying that Pakistan is finished as cricketing nation but this team came out very strongly. It is a fact that most of the player have not played much international cricket to come out of that state of mind it is a big achievement.

I think the mere fact that we're in the final, coming from a turbulent 1-2 years, is a win in itself. We won't be losing even if we did.

That said, I think we should aim for the best, work out a game plan against Murali and Mendis, see through Malinga and score off Mathews. I'm sure Intikhab Alam is working on something like that, 'coz interestingly he was also the team manager/coach in '92 when we won it.

Aaqib Javed needs to have a talk with the young Muhammad Aamer. I think in the last match against Sri Lanka the idea of bowling Jayasuriya into his body was perfect. But it also comes with a risk, as Jayasuriya showed, deliveries like those can be pulled if Aamer errs in length ever so slightly. For Dilshan, I think if we stick to the basics and choke him for runs, he will gift away his wicket, like he does in test cricket.

Let's keep things in perspective. T20 is a mickey mouse/gulli danda format of cricket and Pakistan is good at it (as are the rest of the sub-continent). We should not confuse success achieved in this format of the game with what should be our ultimate goal - world test cricket champs. T20 celebrates 4's and 6's no matter how they come, whether they be from top edges, chinese cuts, or agricultural hoicks to cow corner. Bowlers usually buy wickets because batsmen start slogging from the word go. Some skill involved there but not a whole lot. Entertainment - YES, cricket with a capital "C" - an emphatic NO!
Having said all that - Yunus please tell your charges to CRUSH the Lankans!

This could be the moment Pakistani nation is waiting for,,while Pakistani team left to England for such a big tournament no one rate Pakistan into the final but they are in final. This Pakistani team is able to do anything and we expect one more victory from them. Go Pakistan Go and win the title. In the end once again I would like to tell them YOU WIN OR LOSE YOU ARE OURS. And a request to all cricket fan don't make your heros, Zeros in a day, Either its Srilanka or Pakistan. At the end Asian team is in Final which proved how much talent we have in Asia.

The team who bats first will win the tournament. Srilanka in most of their matches have set a target rather than chased one. That is the main reason why they have won so many matches in this tournament.

For me the team who wins the toss and elects to bat first will take the cup home. Lets hope Pakistan's lucky stars keep on shining all day long tomorrow.

We have already achieved what was not expected but we must also not expect too much from them in the final. A finalist place is not dissappointing at all. What is needed is more hard work and a confident performance. Sanath jaysuria was nervous and jittery, Dilshan may have played his best innings. Same is for Afridi he will be in a lot of pressure and repeating such a performance seems impossible. Maybe it's Misbah's turn now to show some magic. Kamran Akmal will have a big role to play as he is in fine touch. Also Malik, Younis, and Misbah should play most of the deliveries from Murali and Mendis. Younis Khan, you have already made us proud!

They have already over-achieved and satisfied me a s a fan. However, they will go above and beyond by winning the final.

Good luck to Pakistan. However, if Pakistan had the following 11 as the 20-20 team, we would be unbeatable:

Imran Nazir
Kamran Akmal
Shoaib Malik
Younis Khan
Misbah Ul Haq
Shahid Afridi
Fawad Alam
Abdul Razzaq
Umar Gul
Shoaib Akhter
Mohammad Asif

I hope Pakistan keep the same winning team, although shoiab malik who is an excellent fielder and good bowler should be batting lower down the order after misbah and fawad alam. Hope we win tomorrow but if we dont theres no better team to lose to than Sri Lanka. Pakistan Zindabad.

Posted by: Rizwan Akhter at June 20, 2009 6:44 PM

Toss is really the key! It is very important to win tomoro's toss.

Both teams've got excellent bowling line ups, which r good enough to defend any target around 140.

when batting second it is easy to score 50 of last 5 overs however when chasing 50 of last 5 overs is a moutain to climb..specially when gul, malinga, mendis and afridi is bowling.

I bet whoever wins the toss wil bat first n is clear favourite to win the match. The par score at lords is 155. If Pak bat first they must score at least 145 to have any realistic chance of winning. If SL bat first Pak must restrict them below 130 to go favourites.

I wish Afridi to open with Kamran Akmal as it will be easy for him to hit mathews and udana otherwise it would be bloody hard for him to hit malinga, murali and mendis.

We already have 5 good bowlers (Afrid, gul, ajmal, amir, razaq, malik) who can bowl So F alam, I think we should've a specilist bat instead of Fawad, as he is unlikeley to bowl in tomoros crunch/presure match

The Lion who was written off has roared back ,in style .Pakistan has given the statement of the year to all the cricket playing nations out there that you cant keep us out of this .We were born to do this so watch us do it again .The mere appearance in the final is enough an answer to cruelty of ICC and IPL whose toyboys are back in their respective countries . Go pakistan Lions go and roar one more time , this time for the ultimate glory .

Its a sad truth that WAR and PEACE will always co-exist. But we can stand up and fight to earn that peace. Even though our goal would be the earning of that peace, we should not forget that our sanity is in the fighting.

NO MATTER WHAT, WE STAND AND FIGHT.

Come the final, regardless of the final result,
the pakistan team shall walk with their heads high. And so can the sri lankan team.

Such is the nature of the sport. SPORT is the one that best represents the humans(HOMO SAPIENS)than any other. And our cricket teams are the ones that best represent our countries than any other.

This pakistan team's World CUP journey is a fight for the right cause. And they have reached the destination with true human spirit and have lit the nation with the light of hope. And that will glow for a long time to come.

combination of Intikhab alam and a Pathan seems to work wonders for us. It happened in 92 and now again in 09.

INSHALLAH, we will win tomorrow. However, if we bat second then it can be tough. I would love to see Fawad Alam coming early, as it will be an out-of-box trick for lankans.

For once, cricket actually has greater significance to both finalists. Both nations have been devastated by internicine feuds sponsored by The Uncle who speaks with forked tongue, and promoted by their own leadership. Couldn't have asked for a better final.

InshaAllah Pakistan will win the world cup. Let's pray that they do and we deserve it more badly than the terror hit lankan team. And guys I just wish the team remains the same and they should not change unless God forbids any of our players get injured at the final moments and as far as fowad alam is concerned so I think he really deserves the place in team because of his fielding and he really stops dome runs for Pakistan in the field and as far his bowling is concerned in the last match he bowled well. First three delvires go for three singles fourth one was miscued by kallis which went to the boundry by the luck of stroke and then inorder to stop kallis to charge him he bowled a full one and kalis took control of it and last one again kallis miscued to take double. If he could have taken the wicket then we must all be praising him. Anyhow it's history now and for me he deserves the place in playing 11 from the exsiting squad
Anyways good luck Pakistan

We owe a lot to lankans. They toured our country when no body is willing to come. And invited us for a home series when we needed it the most. I will be happy even if Sri Lanka wins tomorrow.

Come on PAKISTAN!

1..2..3...GREEN MACHINES ARE GO!!!

Lords has always been a bogey ground for the favourites. In 1999 I recall Wasim Akram winning the toss nd deciding to bat first, even though he inspected the pitch and everyone (including commentators) said bowl first! They batted!

Wasim had a rigid game plan, and didnt bend like the bamboo back then.

Misbah in 2007 needed 5 runs from 4 balls, he could have gone for a straight bat six instead of a flashy backward scoop, he could even have played it safe with a trickle 4 to third leg. Sometimes those split second decisions are turning points in history. How many teams get a second chance to right the wrongs of the past?

Pakistan have a God gifted opportunity to make things right, to bring joy and a new era of cricket to a ravaged country and all fans all over the globe.

Pakistan have more to gain and a deeper desire to atain it, now matter how fun it is!

Insha-allah. I will be wearing green to work on monday!

Luv n respect

Even though I am an Indian, I would love to see Pakistan win the final just because of the tremendous sacrifice they have given in order to reach where they are now. But cricket is going to be the ultimate winner. Let the team who play better win. It is a fitting rebuke to the people who tried to bring the game into disrepute to see the teams who were most affected by the unforgettable incident to be in the final. It is the victory for the spirit of love and togetherness on the forces of hate and discord.

I always liked your posts. but you are forgetting one thing about Pakistan. They too are chokers second only to SA. We all saw that in the game against SA. Pak almost choked but luckily they were playing the biggest chokers of all time.

It is going to be Lanka's cup this year and read my post after the cup is in Sanga's hand.

I've been to many Pakistan games around the world. The most disappointing for mr was the world cup in south africa. But i have never given up on the boys. Dubai, south africa, Pakistan, everywhere i have been, to support my home nation. But this time its not for me, not for the people of england, but the people of Pakistan. This nation has suffered so much in the last few years, that a victory in the final will inspire the people of Pakistan. Maybe a miracle could happen and the violence stop. The last time Pakistan won the world cup, i remember sitting in a mosque, in ramadhan and we all prayed for the teams success. I feel this is happening now. I pray that INSHALLAH Pakistan will triumph tomorrow and if anything put a smile on our nations face that tears of joy will drown our sorrows away.

Posted by: Suhail Yousafzai at June 20, 2009 7:36 PM

I do not understand why Misbah is send so down the order. Being the specialist of T20 he should get a chance to bat much earlier, at least 2 down position. I think I would suggest Younis to give one over to Gul in the beginning to go after in form Dilshan and J'Suria, in the finals.

At the outset let me wish both teams all the best. Being a Sri Lankan my only wish would be a Sri lankan Win at any cost. The fact remains that if Pakistan players put their heads together a Win wont be an impossible feat. They have done it in the past. Its great to see an all Asian final. We wish the Pakistan team all the best.

All focus is on the 3M's. But we have a good wepon coming up. That's Isuru Udana. Insha allah tomorrow will be his day to prove himself to the world of cricket. As a sri lankan I need my countrymen to win this prestigous tournament as it means a lot for us. This win is for the people living in the north of our war ragged country. They would love to see the cricketers if they could visit them at those IDP camps. We also love the pakistani's who has been a good freind of sri lanka. You guys! are going through what we've been going throughout the last 3 decades. Your people would also wish the same a pakistani win! as a sportsmen let us all get together and enjoy the finals and let the best team that could hold it's nerve wins the game! Salams to all Shakir

I think YK has become the Pivot of the team.In this short version of the game, you don,t have much time to adjust.Plan has to be prepared before hand.Good performance from only 1 batsman & a bowler can see you through. He needs wholehearted support both from within & outside the team.People may have talked too much about Inti but he has played his role in calming down the nerves in the initial phases. If Pak wins this cup,his contribution of bringing two cricket WC,s will not be matched for a long time.

Why Shoaib Akhter? Pakistan's bowling was not consistant only because of too much focus on Shoaib who after the exit of Wasim Akram could not lead the bowling with exapmle. Even we forget about his all the wrong deeds he does not deserve a place purely in cricketing sense.

21st June 1999...
Pakistan played the WC final and lost.....!
Now after 10 years...!
Same date, Same City, Same Ground, Allah given another opportunity to Pakistan to play another final, let's hope 4 de best! We will be winner this time with another KHAN :D
i totally disagree with hasan raza and kiran azeem. Why you are looking for negative things? why? this is the best available team which is in WC Final. they r fighters. it's not necessary to show unavailable players, they all best.
but this time we should to support them who brought us in final. Pakistan have world best players to play Murali and Mendis. Malinga, he is nothing, he can never be a Umer Gul, west indies have showed it in semis.
We should to pray together for catch the trophy. InshaAllah we will finish the tournament to be winner. Aameen.
We also shud pray for winning the toss which will b better for us. Pray 4 Pakistan's Victory...

should take fulladvantage of 1st 6 overs. like they did is semi.1st6 overs are important becz t20 people have learnt to bowl at depth. and mailk, misbah and younis are good players of spinners. and i beleive mendis will have a very hard time to bowl to paki becz he bowl very straight and no spin...Afridi and misbah can hit him very hard....Murli will be a bit difficult....YOUNIS and malik can sweep better for Murali to get boundries but key lies in the 1st 6 overs and they should bat 1st

Posted by: ati at June 20, 2009 8:11 PM

its difficult but not impossible, and stranger things happened in cricket.
the balance is hugely shifted towards lanka ,as they have 3 "mystery"bowlers ,bowling at there top and one batsman (dilshan) who is more efficient than any two pak batsmen .
so there is very less chance for pak ,to continue to thrive.
there is one hope that pak win the toss and give lanka ,a target near to 145-150.
and if lanka bat first, lets hope they collapse and could only manage 120 or so.

Posted by: Syed Muhammad Javed at June 20, 2009 8:11 PM

I pray to the God, the Pakistan wil become the Champion of T20, after long time we received a good victory in semifinal against S.A. all the nation was very happy on the victory and await same performance, but if Pakistan will not success in the Final, but they fright to win, being a nation, we mus appriciate them, becouse in any game, one team must be runner up and one is the winner.

being a Pakistani fan i believe we have developed the momentum which will take us to the victory stand.the players are charged up and from their body language it is quite evident that they will be very hard to beat tomorrow.they seem to be in the same mould as that of the 92 WC team when all the odds were against them and suddenly they pulled outstanding victory in the semi final and than they were unstoppable.hope they repeat the same again.our best wishes and prayers are with Pak team.best of luck guys.Pakistan Zindabad

Its great to see the comradrie between Pakistani and Sri Lankan fans. As long as both team play to their potential I dont care who loses or wins. The Sri Lankans were the only team to visit Pakistan when the rest of the world was bent on casting us out (and Pakistan has done the same earlier for the Sri Lankans) - and today the same two teams play final of the world cup held at the home of cricket. You cannot make a bigger statement than that to show how relevant these two teams are. Whatever the result - Pakistan and Sri Lanka are both winners!

Posted by: M Ibtisam at June 20, 2009 8:44 PM

I recommend another article written by Osman Samiuddin. I think both of these, one by Mr. Abbsai and the other one, explains that Pakistan can defy any odds whether it is in Cricket ground or on Political front. What it requires is just one thing and that is the team effort, which I think our team has learnt, finally. Lets just finish this off on a winning note.

Posted by: HaMmy at June 20, 2009 8:44 PM

all those pathetic statements by some journalistsand cricket enthusiasts that "Pakistan need it more than others" and "sri lankans deserve to win this title", i would only say to them that, pakistan deserves more to win this title not because ICC is being harsh at pakistan cricket and international cricket has been brought to a halt, but pakistan has performed with teeming talents and they have defeated the best team of the tournament that is proteas, pakistan is thriving with young talents and best pace and spin bowling has an edge on all the good teams. pakistan has the very best batting line up too, with misbah and shahid, n yunuos and malik and fawad and akmal but only it lacks good tactics and strategy, pakistan is equipped with a damaging weapons and theyll prove tomorrow!!!

pakistan is not pathetic!!!

Assalaam o alaikum!
I think Pakistani Cricket team has already won our hearts,as a Pakistani i wish and pray that we win this worldcup for the sake of cricket in our motherland but neverthless Pakistan were starting this cup as underdogs and they beat SA in semis, that was the moment i have not seen Paksitani teams in that agressive mood going in the field, their body language was telling everything.Srilanka is my 2nd choice and luckily they are in the Final.Srilanka has shown sympathy and brotherhood to Pakistan they came in our country despite critics, and they left in sad way.Play Pakistan as we need this Cup.win and shut the mouths of those who are jealous of us,you have already won our hearts now take this cup with you and you will see whole Pakistan dancing and thanking ALMIGHTY ALLAH.
pray all of you that may Pakistan win, offer nafals particularly for the victory of Pakistani team..

Its great to see positive comments from our sri lankan friends :) im a fan as a pakistani, sri lanka is a very strong team. Pak will need to once again fire all engines if this is to happen, they can do it, they did it and how against SA. First if they bat they DEF need to put a bigger total on the board, in the opening and in the end. Younis has been complaining how they are usually ending 15-20 runs short. This is it, no second chances esp with the batting firepower Sri lanka has. If they put on a 160 or even better 170+ score, pak has a really good chance if they do tight bowling and fielding like they did in the previous game. whoever wins I want to see a great match but for Pak like Osman said it would mean a lot to a lot of people back home. They could def use some good news about right now. Go Pak Go!!!

There is no doubt Afridi, Gul, Ajmal,Akmal,Younus are performing. But what happened to Malik,Misbah and Razzak? We need powerful hitting at the end to make a big score.Malik and Misbah were the star of last world cup. what happen this time. So far pakistan has perform beyond expectation. No matter what is the result, win or loose. I am happy for both. Inshallah we will beat lankans in final as always we did.Lets pray !!.

Inshallah Pak will win the cup but batting line should be Akmal, shehzad , Afridi, Razaq, Fawadalam, Misbah, Younis, Malik etc... plz do this and we will win....

Posted by: Arman Hashmi at June 20, 2009 10:08 PM

My feelings are that Inshallah Taallah this time Pakistan would crown themselves as world champions-and more importantly re-assert themselves by regaining some of the lost pride.
My XI for tomorrow would have only one change, it would be playing Ahmed Shahzad instead of Fawad Alam, if Younis Khan and Co. have decided that they are not going use Fawad Alam as a bowler. Now this itself needs some meticulous thought before reaching upon a decision, Anyway, it's a tough proposition.

Any my advice to the Pakistani batsmen, that they are such good players of spin, please face Murali and Mendis with confidence, with Mendis just make sure that you don't leave your stumps unguarded and wait for the ball to come on to the bat. Try and walk a few steps down to Malinga or at least show some intent as it would unsettle his yorker length and help convert them into low full toss deliveries. Take on the field with such zeal, passion and hunt like hungry wolves, attack like a unit. All Duaas with you

Posted by: bohurupi at June 20, 2009 10:12 PM

This a chance for Pakistan to prove its worth as a great cricketing nation. A chance for them to shrugg off all non-sporting pain, woes, worries and dishonor that almost isolated them in the cricket world. Win or loss, the cup will stay to one of the two great criket nations who had tremendously suffered or are still suffering from political unrest, terorrism, civil wars etc. But it is the criket which will emerge as the ultimately winner. Viva Cricket!

its great to see pak in finals again.i was very disappointed when u dropped the cup last time.u have come back strong against all odds.i wish u all the best to win this time.may god be on our side tomorrow.just handle the pressure well.i think u have 2 settle down with an opener.i suggest u replace shahzaib with shehzhad he is a good batsman and goes after bowling which will put pressure on srilanka opening bowlers especially the new pacemen isuru udana and angelo matthews.shahzaib is not impressive in the field.moreover sri lanka would found a strategy to get out him and it would suprise them shehzad opens.try to score more than 50 runs in the powerplays and post a total of 155.its defendable.

Posted by: fred Karmally at June 20, 2009 10:23 PM

Pak wont win unless they use their heads and play their best cricket too. I shudder at the the thought of giving Fawad Alam another slow bowling over. What was Younis thinking .. he almost lost the game with that dumb move! and don't throw away your wicket Kamran.

I am a Sri lankan and wish a Sri lankan win. However, I have no problem with a Pakistan win too. We Sri Lanka have already a great sense of relief after eradicating terrorism. Pakistan is a friend and they need more cheer. As Sambit bal says, there are no losers tomorrow.

As a Pakistani, offcourse I would like to see Pak winning. But if Pak loose to SL, I will never mind it. As after Pak, SL is my beloved team. They r our true friends. Never forget they helped us in difficult times. As a nation we r ashamed to our friends what happened in Lahore. So no matter who wins. Its a victory for humanity & shame 4 terrorists.
Good Luck to Pakistan & Sri Lanka.

I hope cricket will be the winner tomorrow....Sri Lanka and Pakistan have both undergone a lot this year and passions will be running high.I am off to watch a good game of cricket tomorrow at Lord's..As a Sri Lankan I will be supporting my team but if Pakistan win ,I will still be happy as I will know what it means at this given moment in time that we all need to come together as a nation ,unite and defeat the elements that are trying to destroy everything that is good. May the better team win.

Posted by: Shahid at June 20, 2009 11:53 PM

Dilshans wicket is key to it, don't give him 6 overs for that, let Gul bowl a couple of overs in the start. SL must have done some home work and main strategy has to be approach towards Gul yorkers. I think they will come forward to take him on full toss. And Pakistan must do the same and use a step forward to Malinga

Posted by: Vijay at June 21, 2009 12:38 AM

Pakistan may have the edge in presssure games but sri lanka are a very tough opponent to beat with the 3 M's Malinga, Muralitharan, Mendis and possibly matthews and Mahela and Leading run scorer dilshan.

i want to ask one question from Kamran that why Abdul Razzaq is not properly used as one down batsman. He has been doing well at this no in ICL and Pakistan's domestic tournament. Sending him at no 7 or 8 is not justified as he has no time to settle.

The day has arrived we were waiting for, just a few steps ahead, a little more determination, strong as ever backed up with all its nation, praying for their heros to win. Let us show to the world that we are stronger than ever no matter what happens. We love you Pakistan.

Posted by: Yusaf Khan at June 21, 2009 1:11 AM

I hope Pakistan wins but God forbid if we were to lose, I wont feel too bad as it will be to our brothers the Sri Lankans. Sri Lanka toured Pakistan when no other team was willing to do so and I will never ever forget this gesture. If Pakistan wasn't playing I would have been supporting Sri Lanka all the way to the final.

Posted by: kamal shahid at June 21, 2009 1:13 AM

Please for GOD sake, Yunis and Razzaq, dont try to play last five overs as if you are trying to darw a test match when you already know you have lot of batting line left. I still dont understand reason for that planning of making only 29 runs in last five overs when every teams wants to score over 10runs/over. Pakistan also has a reputation of making 10runs/over for long time. If they had scored 30 more runs then there was no threat of losing. Thank GOD that HE helped Yunis khan and pakistani team, otherwise Jack Kallis had taken the match away.

Posted by: Usman at June 21, 2009 1:30 AM

Pak Vs SL does not have the same rivalry as Ind-Pak does but therein lies the reality. Even though as a die hard Pak fan, i would love to see the green shirts lift the trophy and win back smiles for the people back home, but SL as a neutral are a nice team to watch. It wont be a dreadful sight to see Sangakarra lift the trophy.
Point is, the Lahore accidents showed Pak-SL frienship is bigger than conflicts and tragedies.
may the best team win... GOOOO Pakistan !!

Someone suggested Salman Butt should play instead of Fawad. No way man. Fawad is a brilliant fielder and Butt is worthless. If Butt drops Dilshan once, it will be all over for Pakistan. We cannot afford dropping catches tomorrow. Butt has no place in this team.

What a moment!
Red-hot Pakistan hold the edge and momentum.
Team Pakistan devastated the in-form South Aficans and steam rolled New Zealand recently while S/L were rather fortunate to have easy "freak" victory against W.I.
Under pressure, Sri Lanka will crumble against red-hot Pakistan.
Pakistan is playing with 6 Afridies and 5 Guls !
My gut feeling is Kamran Akmal will be "player of the match" and Mohd. Aamer will dismantle the Lanka batting !
In the end, both (Pak+S/L) will be "winners" !
After the turbulant events (past & on-going),
1) in Pakistan (esp. Lahore involving S/L team)
2) in Sri Lanka ( victory against TT )
its strange, bizzare that "the final" is being played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
It will be the victory of "people's resolve" against extremists/terrorists !
Who ever wins, the victory should be dedicated to victoms ( all over the world, in Northern areas of Pakistan, in Sri Lanka and Mumbai! ).

This is the time all Pakistanis should take an oaththat they will lift Pakistan victorious in other walks of life too. The game will be over in few hours but Pakistan needs its citizen to unite under the umbrella of oneness like their cricket eleven and under the sologans of Iqbal/and qaid. Unite and lead the rest of 1.5 billion muslims around the world. you have the talent and all the resources like your own cricket team.

Posted by: Neil at June 21, 2009 3:28 AM

All sense and logic says that Pakistan should have failed to make a dint in this tournament. However, when you consider that a 20/20 match can turn on a single freak catch or a miscued 6 over the wicketkeeper's head I think that Pakistan have every chance to win. Sri Lanka would indeed be worthy winners. They are a very complete side in this form of the game and at the moment they have the 2 best slow bowlers in the world in their team which is an incredible asset when sides are slapping the quick bowlers around. But, given the recent heartbreak of life in Pakistan or for that matter in Northern Sri Lanka it is hard to imagine a situation in which the morale of a whole country could be more transformed by 3 hours of sport. For the sake of the long-suffering ordinary people of both countries I will be hoping for a good tight contest. Although I'm an Aussie I can't think of 2 more worthy finalists. Good Luck. My head says Sri Lanka. My heart, like yours Kamran, says, "Dil Dil Pakistan!!"

What a Great Final. I am a fanatical Lankan supporter living in OZ. This is what dreams are made of. The two nations have always stood by and respect each other. We still remember in 1996 Pakistan helped Sri Lanka win the World Cup, as when the Westerners did not want to visit it was the Pakistanis who provided SL with much needed practice. The same goes with Pakistan, when others did not want to tour, SL always stood by our friend.
This is a triumph for cricket where two gentlemanly nations meet in the final. The perfect result would be a Draw!!

Few tips for the team before match ... replace Fawad Alam with Ahmed Shehzad. Force Shoab Mailk and Razzak to play fast while batting ... Get 4 overs from Gul not 3 as last time ... bat 2nd and do the chase (we have a long batting line-up, especially after having Ahmed Shehzad at No. 7 or 8).

Posted by: Qasim Cheema at June 21, 2009 4:07 AM

Thats right Sri lanka bowling is excellent , but can be easily compared to pakistan's. Afrida is comparable to Mendis in bowling as he has a lots of variations as well. Ajmal not as experienced as Murlitharan but still not far away. Gul at present is more accurate than malinga. Aamir could be easily compared to Mathews. I would say its a even contest in bowling.

In Batting, i would say both sides are unpredictable, Sri-lanka has a slight edge because of strong openning pair. But If tomorrow
Akmal , afridi , misbah or even razzaq any of them clicks, they can single handedly take the game away from Sri lanka . Looking forward to a very interesting Final tomorrow.

I have no doubt in my mind that have Pakistan is a good team and have all the charactertics of a wining squad. One day I was watching a TV program and a great player of his time Mr. Zaheer Abbass A captain of Pakistan sie was a guest comentator. A caller asked him a question, "can Pakistan beat Siri Lanka" Zaheer Abbass said why not and could not shed more light due to the shortage of time. To elaborate Zaheer's answer I would like to add a little bit more in his answer by saying that if Pakistan can beat an unbeaten team of South Africa why not Sri Lanka. Nothing is impossible and for everybody knows that this team is full of talents and is capable of despatching Sri Lanka back to pevillion too. Inshallah with the will of almighty God this team will beat Sri Lanka. I hope that all the members of the team stay calm, patient and thankful to the Lord for providing this opportunity to become world champion. The Pakistani Team did in the past and Inshaallah will do it again.

It will be an epic battle between Pak & SL. Both teams have their own exclusive strentghs. The climax of any tournament is always in the final match and not many teams able to absorb the pressure. Pak has been tagged underdogs by cricket pundits, but I'm sure this Pakistan is unlike Pakistan in 1999 world cup or 2007 t20 world cup. They will rise to the occassion and viva Pakistan ...

Pakistan has finally got their batting line up right with Kamran opening and Afridi coming in at no. 3. It is a waste to have all your hitters batting towards the end you need to use them early since its only a a 20 over game.

I salute all those heroes who have laid their lives to keep Pakistan on top in the country (Army officers and tribel fighters) and those police officers who have given their lives while protecting Sri Lankan team during the Lahore test.
It is really great to see all the Pakistan team working hard and speacially the fielders backing up their bowlers. I hope they will play even better today and bring the cup to Pakistan. I request all the Pakistanis to pray for Pakistan and keep on saying the following Verse from Holy Quran
"Nassrun Minal Allah-e Wa Fathun Kareeb"

Even though this a great opportunity for Pakistan the biggest danger is from within. Team captain should take advise from Seniors such as Afridi and Razzak. Its important that he doesn't repeat the mistakes he made in Semi final by using Alam at critical moment ( unfair to Alam as well) and also not using Gul's complete quota of overs. Gul should have bowled the last over. Aamir gave 15 runs in that over and one mistake from him could have changed the out come. I think he should bowl his regular 5 and if there is need the Malik should be used as 6th bowler. Also in batting like Imran Khan said they need to use Mishbah up in the order where he can do some demage.

Posted by: Tahir Mehboob at June 21, 2009 5:39 AM

Pakistan can win if they trust themselves and make shure that they don't play stupid shorts to throw away their wickets.
And should nt be over confident due to the last wins they had
Please try to play sensibly,
Good luck!

Asif ali, mean I am a cricket fan,What is that for it is a victorious muslims worlds?I am not a muslim but I love the game.If you think it is the muslim game you r bull shit. You learn from England.so do respect the game and love it? I love Pakistany TEAM.I really do love pakistany team but no muslims.

Posted by: pardesi at June 21, 2009 6:34 AM

Both teams have strong bowling. Both have jittery batting & SL might have a slight edge.We might see a low scoring game and chasing would be difficult. The team with positive attitude & body language will pull it off.Pak were not even expected to be in the final. They should play without pressure. If you win good, if not you still overachieved.Winning the toss is important.Win the toss, bat first and put up 135-140 which should be a good total to defend. Our weekness is in the mid overs when the runs dry up.We will have to tweek the bat order a little.Malik/Yunis/Fawad should be spaced out and plug in with Razzak/Misbah in between followed by Gul/Ajmal/Aamer. We will need a long bat lineup. After that sensible bowling and absolute perfect fielding should win this one for Pak.If we lose the toss then restrict them to 135-145 and then bat sensible. It might get close & interesting in the end.I expect a nail-biter,not that I have any left. Go Pakistan.U hav earned your place. Now finish the job.

It will be a nice contest indeed. I think both the teams are well balanced and it all depends on the day they play and their luck. God bless Pakistani team.

I pray for the success of Team Pakistan. I just have to say that either they win the final or not, they already have won the heart of their nation. They put smile on our face after a long time. This is high time to tell ICC not to steal our right of hosting World Cup Matches. If situation dosen't improve, we can choose the venue of UAE. Good Luck Pakistan

Posted by: Milan at June 21, 2009 7:06 AM

think Pakistan will not change the winning combination but i think Fawad Alam is totally waisted in the line up. He is not getting many balls to bat and after the 15 runs over in the semi final, Younis might not risk giving him an over or two. So if Tanvir is fit then why not replace Fawad Alam with Tanvir? He can swing the new ball and can give a bang or two in batting as well.
Anyway all the best to Pakistan team.
We all pray for them to become the World Champions.

Hummmmmm.....10 years ago, 20 June 1999, i still remember that day. Same ground, same world Cup Final, same energy, passion, enthusiasm..... but that day had turned to be as the most heart-breaking day of this Cricket loving nation..

Now after 10 years, i am feeling the same enthusiasm, energy & passion, every1 is talking about the big final, and expectations are too high, heartbeats are getting higher & higher as the time passing on…..Passion is BACK, but can we delivered this time?? Can we stand tall & play the game with the same aggression & game plan??

Gul, Afridi & Saeed Ajmal are the key bowlers…… Batting is still creating concerns & it can be a vital difference in between the Smile & tears… role of Fawad Alam is still undecided to me… isn’t better to drop him & select either Salman Butt or Ahmed Shahzad @ the top, so that Younus, Misbah & Malik can play most of Murli & Mendis?

One thing is for sure that the nation is backing the team better then ever.

Go Pakistan Go

I am an indian but am proud to be an asian to see two asian teams reaching the final. Truly pakistan have shown the passion which was lacking in other teams like india. Don't ever think that indians are enemies of pak. We cheer for pak also. Go pak go.

Posted by: Avinash at June 21, 2009 7:21 AM

Gotta luv some of you...why do you bring Lalit Modi and BCCI into this...sour grapes...no matter what happens today in the final...no one is going to Lahore or Karachi to play cricket...it will provide temporary respite...in the long terms there is still some misery expected...AND...stop obssessing what the indians are going to think...they each earn $!mill, while winning t20 world cup the team gets $250k...guess the pak team need money...since no one wants to play them.
...with love from India...

I think Sri lanka is going to win the match, the same way then beat Pakistan in canada Cup T20. Sri Lanka currently in form has better bowling attack than pakistan, only week link is their middle order batting. If top oder click then they will win the cup. Anything around 150-160 is enough to defend the total with there bowling attack.

Insha Allah T20 will be ours it will be a big victory for us over those culprits who are trying their level best to isolate Pakistan from Cricket but our Cricket team has proved to this world that we are not afraid of anyone. We we have already made our point by going into the final and now it is a stage where we will become National Heroes. Entire Nation is proud of these players and every player in the side has shown it's real killing effect to the opposition. But we must be careful with Murali, Mendis and Malinga who should be dealt very carefully. Let's hope the Best will come out from this team which has been full of surprises for any opposition.

Excellent work by Pakistan & Srilanka both. As a Pakistani, my second favourite team is Srilanka. They have got the same passion & Junoon which Pakis have got. When they need to win, they simply win. No matter what it costs them & how big the hurdles are. So for me, I would prefer Pakistan win but Srilanka winning also will not be that disappointing. GREAT JOB GUYS. Just six hours more & the match will start. I am eagerly waiting.

@Tharanga
It really hurts to know that Mr tharanga and his sri lankan friends are happy when India loses, coz we dont feel the same way about sri lanka.

I'm an Indian. We appreciate any team that wins a game as long as they play it in the right spirit.
And when they do not we dont care and in fact would love if they lose coz thats what they deserved.

This is not an argument with you Mr. Tharanga coz I respect your judgement and dont intend to question it.

Its only that we dont want any bad feelings spreading around for no good reason. We all have our faults and these kind of things are not going to change it. But we can start to appreciate each other and benefit from it.

Its long overdue that we start to understand each other. Lets hope that happens very soon.

WE CAN DO IT.

Pakistan team has achieved more then what anyone predicted at the start of this tournament... including myself so they are already winners in my heart even if they loose the final.

Pakistani team are unpredictable. But the time needs consistency. We know Pakistan can win WC, but the play should be fair. Like we see the teams do even for a single run victory, team like Australia & South Africa there effort were marvelous. It’s a final & I think both teams will do their best. I need more then the BEST from Pakistan because team India & Indian also watching this match & they won't want what we need this time.

Posted by: Marlo at June 21, 2009 9:36 AM

@Jogesh99
You may be right in case of Pakistan but the cause for the game lovers is lack of cricket and not UNCLE games as they are really getting used to them. But then who doesn't give that much importance to cricket in subcontinent, for some the hype is over and grapes are sour the others still sail with the flow. Was it the other way around, was your comment surely a different one.

Undoubtedly Sri Lanka will win the finals comfortably. With the great batting line up along with the three best bowlers in the world Sri Lanka team is the best. Pakistan will not stand a chance against mighty LIONS. Sri Lanka will knockout Pakistan is style. May the Triple Gem bless the Sri Lankan team....

Posted by: maddy's dad at June 21, 2009 9:43 AM

Go Greeeeeeen...

I wish and pray that we do well in this game, outcome is not in our hand, we can surely work hard and give all that we can towards achieving the required results, rest depends on Almighty.

I would suggest that instead of having Fawad Alam wasted (without bowling or batting), they should either let him bat up the order and give him a license to attack, it fails we will still have people to cover. Or, add another batter to the side, Ahmed Shahzad maybe.

Posted by: Musa Khan at June 21, 2009 9:44 AM

Well we are just short only one decent win. Its not gonna be easy as you people know that sri lanka r in top gear now. Boom Boom Show Or a merical performance from any one players from pakistan side can put the ball in sri lankan court. Afridi should open the innings with kamran because he is a bit weak in spin chemistry.
To win the final Pakistan have to dissmiss jaysuria,Dilshan And sangakara as soon as they can. And the key factor is that pakistan should not play defensive cricket.I hope Younas will not do any contagious experiment like he did in semi final by giving over to fawad alam. That was just like to commit sucide. Pakistan should play farelessly, positively and aggressively Just to give a reason to the people of NWFP to smile. We r Pakistani and in every harsh and tuff time we always BITE THE BULLET. PAKISTAN ZINDABAD

Posted by: Syed Kashif Imam at June 21, 2009 9:50 AM

I pray that Pakistan team wins and make all of us proud and happy , happiness which we need badly, though by reaching to final, they have already made us excited.... but even if Srilanka wins I wont be too much sad because they are our friends & rem it was Srilankan team who came to Pakistan when every other team was refusing, we owe them one, so I wish them good luck too.
A word for Pakistani team, we love you all and our prays are with you always. Pakistan Zindabad!!

Assalamualikum

Dear fellow readers. This comment from an Indian is a tribute to all my Pakistani brothers, who have been braving the constant threat of terrorism each time they decide to get out of their homes. This post is a tribute to all those family members whose loved ones went out of their homes, to never return after any major attack. But more importantly this post is a show of solidarity to my fellow cricket mad neighbors that Pakistan has won the hearts of millions across the border, as well, through their mercurial yet brave march to the finals.Cricket unites people. Cricket brings people together. Cricket is the ultimate winner.

I pray to Allah that this final victory gives our strife ridden neighbors one small yet joyful reason to forget their wounds.May a million prayers be answered today.

May Allah make this world a better place to live.

Amen

Pakistani players play srilankan bowling better than any other team specially spinners. They have to believe themselves that they could win. They have to be confident, although srilankans are playing good cricket they are not unbeatable.Today they have to outperform srilankans in every department. They have to attack srilanka from start of the match.Malik,Misbah,Afridi,Akmal,Younis, and Gul have to play well to beat SL.I pray for pakistan's win today.I hope they come out victorious.Good Luck Pakistan.

Someone rightly said "Cricket is Life". The unpredictable Life in Pakistan lately has hardened us as individuals, the daily news punchline showing people dying does that to you and makes you expect less, yet we watch news everyday with a flicker of hope. Likewise Pakistan cricket with all its unpredictability has the same "Hope" factor attached for its fans. The fact is that Sri Lanka are a much better team just like South Africa and all we can do is expect little and "hope" for more. As a Prroud Pakistani I hope that Pakistan wins as it will definitely bring smiles to tension stricken people of Pakistan.
Good Luck Both Teams.

As the countdown for the Grand finale begins, I am starting to get more tense. No doubt Pak is an unpredictable team and it is better not to always expect good results from them. But my passion for Pak cricket team overpowers my common sense. So I always expect Pak to win any match against any team.T20 might be regarded as the batsman's game. But it is the bowlers who helped both SL and PAK to get into the finals.Top 5 wicket takers are from these two teams only. And I beleive that the bowlers only are going to decide the fate of the Grand Finale. For Pak, I think the biggest threat will be Malinga rather than MEndis and Murali. I agree with KAMRAN about tackling Malinga with some plan. I hope they have some in this crucial encounter.Regading Pak batting, I think Fawad looks like a waste in this batting line up.But I dont find any better replacement for him in this squad considering that he can be helpful with ball as well.I pray Misbah and Razzak will come good with bat this time. AAMIN.

Pakistan can only win if the other team has a pathetic day at the office, they have'nt beaten anyone fair and square as yet.
So, if Srilanka play to their ability or for that matter, had any other team who lost to the pakis played even 60% of their abilities, we wouldnt be reading pakis saying all this.
Talent has always been the strength of pakistan team and not laptop cricket, but now, this Srilankan team outscores them in that department too apart being having a methodical approach too.
Well, anyhow, All the best to both of them for the final.
Just one more thing.......
2007 20-20world cup was won by a wicketkeeper captaining his side for the first time in a major tournament.

Although it would be great for pakistan to win and as a pak fan it would make me very very happy, however if Sri Lanka win I will not be angry, upset or sad as the sri lankan team dealt with the whol lahore incident with GREAT DIGNITY and did not say a bad word against pakistan, I know the likes of Aus, Safrica, England and the kiwis would have gone on and on about it non stop. So well done Sri lanka and I hope we a have a cracker today!

Posted by: Umer Farooq at June 21, 2009 11:25 AM

I believe the only threat will be Tillekeratne Dilshan. he is the most dangerous player of this tournament and can turn the game single handedly. Moreover, he plays a very very safe cricket. No chances given. He seeks 4s and not 6s a lot which is the key to his success. Pakistan should address this in the first 6 overs. I belive Guls's yorkers are the answers to his skills. As far the Mendis and Murali are concerned, Pakistan have faced them on quite a number of times so no worries playing them. Afridi, Misbah, younis, Shoaib and Akmal can handle them well.

Boys take care of Dilshan only. And match will be in your pocket. I can bet if Dilshan falls in first 4 overs, there will be much less competition between the teams. Who wanna bet here? LOLz. Gud Luck Pakistan.

I have seen many years tears shed off my family, whenever pakistan has lost. I really hope they win today, or I might quit watching cricket. Being an India, I still yell... Go Pakistan!

I;m a Pakistani. Any team who makes to the final, is great team. Final is final, let us enjoy the game, I'm confident its going to be a great game today. I love see Pakistan winning but if Sirilanka is winner, I will be happy, as Sirilanka is a friendly country. It is impressive that Sirilankans reacted very responsibly, when terrorist attacked cricketers in Lahore. Pakistanis are sad more than Sirilankans that this happened. Wish good-luck to both the teams.

Salt has already been sprayed on many Indian's wounds by the extraordinary Pakistan's performance thus far. If they win the final, that will surely be real icing on the cake. Indians have tried their hardest to throw Pakistan out of the world map (not just cricket's) but Pakistan has not only managed to survive on both counts, but has surged forward with pomp and dignity. Message for the Pakistani cricketers: We all are extremely proud of you. Just play the final with the same same passion and pride as you have played the last three matches of the cup, and we will not be disappointed of you even if you are unable to bring home the cup. Bravo Pakistan Cricket Team! For the Indians: Sorry you weren't good enough for us to meet us at any of the knock-out stages of the tournament.

What a Superb Spectacle awaits and i truly hope as a cricket lover that its an entertaining finale

I dont mind so much after the last year who wins as much as surely its the sport and the people that matter

Lovely sentiment by Sampath and as a pakistani fan find it fitting that the 2 most vibrant and entertaining teams are in the final

Sri Lanka have played some great cricket and Pakistan have exploded into form and i think Lords Will be electric

Enjoy

There are 100s of people commenting about who will perform, who should be the key, etc. Personally I feel it would be something different gona happen from both ends. Who knows Misbah or Mailk who had been quite would do something unexpected today, who knows Razzaq or Amir make the life easy for Gul by doing some serious damage in the early overs. And same goes for Srilanka, who knows Jayasuriya n Sangakara who had an average tournamant might shine.
So my belief is we can't just look up for the performers of this tournamanet, as there could be something unexpecting oing to happen.....someone might steel the show whom we have ignored in our comments so far... :)
But we must not let ourselves down even if we lose the final.....we have played a good cricket even though we had very less cricket in the past 18 months and on top no IPL practice for us. So WELL DONE boys, u have made PAIKSTAN pround out there :)
INSHALLAH, YOU GUYS WILL MAKE US MORE PROUD!!!!

Many many heartfelt congratulations to Pakistan team and Younis Khan for winning the T20 world cup. When he had clarified his views after taking over the captaincy that he wants to emulate the 1992 victory by Imran khan then everyone laughed about his comment as to how he could he bring out the best out of loosely knit Pakistan eleven. But what has he achieved today is even greater considering the undercooked preparations and starvation of international quality cricket. no team would have been so starved of quality cricket before going for world event in any sport and still managed to win it. It shows a Brave Heart of the contributors and is a message to ICC. They can no longer ignore such a force in FTP of ICC. Thanks and congrats to Pakistan team and Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi for bringing a great jpy to a beleaguered nation.

Dear Kamran,
Its joyfull to experience Pakistan winning the cup, but since the day of finals I only have been thinking that how unfair it is on Razaq. Everybody write and talk of Afridi but tell me if Afridi didn't score 50 would other remaining 4 batsmen not have scored that anyway. But what if SL had not lost those wickets to Razaq. Tell us who is the real hero
