Sunil Gavaskar has said Sourav Ganguly’s criticisms of the former selection committee and his team-mates were “understandable” but untimely. "I think the outburst is understandable, I only wish that this outburst was after the series had been concluded," Gavaskar told an Indian news channel. Ganguly told a Bengali daily that being dropped for the Irani Trophy had hurt more than being overlooked for the India squad. He said he was tired of being singled out for scrutiny and that there were players in the team who changed the hairstyle more often than scoring runs. But Gavaskar said Ganguly’s remarks neither helped him nor in maintaining harmony in the dressing room. "Ever since he made his debut in 1991-92, there has been a gun pointed at Ganguly's head,” Gavaskar said. “Everybody has always presumed that he has got into the Indian team because of reasons other than cricket and he has to prove them wrong over and over again. So one is sympathetic with the way he is feeling.”
