Rehab for Gibbs
The man who once eagerly let it be known that the secret behind snapping a 17-month ODI century drought was "a pizza and a couple of Jack Daniels", has decided to undergo a month-long alcohol rehabilitation programme starting on Monday.
Herschelle Gibbs was arrested last March on failing a breathalyser test before being released on bail. He appeared before a Cape Town magistrate on Wednesday for the drink driving charge who scheduled the trial between March 24-26 of next year.
He was dropped last month from the South African ODI squad against Bangladesh after he broke a team curfew. Mohammed Moosajee, the team manager, had said at that time that Gibbs would be required to attend an alcohol rehabilitation course. The programme means Gibbs will not be able to represent his domestic side, the Cape Cobras, till the second week of January.
In a colourful career that has also encompassed match-fixing scandals, racism charges and dope-smoking, Gibbs has certainly crossed a few boundaries.
