Moores for Lancashire?
Peter Moores has only been out of a job a few days, but already speculation is starting as to where he might go next. The biggest opening on the county scene is the coaching role at Lancashire after Mike Watkinson moved to become the club’s first director of cricket.
Applications for the position closed on January 5, but Watkinson said the club may consider a late candidate if they were suitably qualified.
“We are just in a process of pulling our shortlist together. The closing date has gone for applications and we are keen to get the right man,” he told the Press Association. "We have open minds but nobody is ruled in and nobody is ruled out.
"If people apply late, in any recruitment campaign such as this you have got the option of ignoring it or taking notice of it. If people apply after the deadline it is up to them, they take that risk."
Moores previously enjoyed a successful spell as coach of Sussex, helping guide them to their maiden Championship title in 2003, and has worked with a number of the Lancashire squad during his spells as the National Academy director and latterly as England coach.
