Super, super Mick! . . .
Pundits, managers, commentators, columnists, so-called experts . . . . shut your mouths.
Wolves were sharp, Burnley were flat, 2-0, 12th at Christmas.
The manner of the victory at Molineux proved Mick was absolutely right to rest so many players in the week ahead of this game.
The first goal was made by Doyle out-running Carlisle, then Jarvis and Milijas reacting fastest in the Burnley box.
For the second, Doyle out-muscled the much bigger Caldwell.
Throughout the match Henry and Milijas outplayed and outworked Alexander and his midfield.
Stearman had the dangerous Eagles in his pocket too.
Neither visiting centre half lasted 90 minutes!
And why? . . .
Burnley were tired after giving their all against Arsenal.
Wolves were fresh after most of the players had a rest against United.
It’s not rocket science, just efficient use of the squad.
Can anyone remember the last time we were this high up the footballing charts at any point in any season? I reckon it’s more than 30 years ago.
So now we go in to two matches against Liverpool and Manchester City that on paper seem difficult but looking at form, politics and pressure actually seem winnable.
The transfer window is approaching too and so the rumour mill is grinding in to action.
Let’s not stand on ceremony, let’s get some names out there.
James Beattie, Andy Carroll and Kris Commons are the latest I’ve heard and all seem realistic.
